Night 6

The remaning Villagers settle down for a fitful night of "sleep". Who is the remaining Vampire?

 

I have not yet received the Vampire's target yet. If I haven't received it in 6 hours, Day 7 will begin without a victim.

 

Even the undead have abandoned this accursed village.

 

Day 7

Edmund wakes up at first light, surprised that he is still alive. He walks outside and sees a figure approaching his house. As the figure gets closer, he sees that it is Giles the Farmer.

Edmund asks if Giles has seen Mayor Felix, to which Giles replies, "Yes, I certainly have" ...and nothing more. Edmund asks, "Is he alive? Did we slay the last of them?" Giles remains silent as his mouth curls into an evil grin.

The hairs on the back of Edmund's neck prickle as he realizes something is terribly wrong. Edmund starts to dash back inside the house, but Giles quickly pounces on Edmund. As Giles sinks his teeth into Edmund's neck, a wooden beam comes loose from the top of the door frame and smacks Giles on the head. Edmund escapes while Giles is dazed.

Night 7

Edmund is exhausted from running all day. Every time he seems to get away from Giles, the Vampire shows back up... almost as if he's playing a cat-and-mouse game with Edmund. Edmund finds a small cave. He quickly enters and slumps against the back wall, desperately needing rest.

As Edmund begins to drift off to sleep, he hears a voice coming from the cave entrance: "Stop running, Edmund. It's futile." Edmund presses himself against the back wall and screams, "I don't want to die!" Giles laughs, and says, "Doctor, doctor... you don't understand! You're not going to die..."

"...you're going to become one of us."

The Vampires WIN.

 

Does that include lawyers?

Game Recap

I have attached a spreadsheet that indicates the Role of each player. In addition, it indicates each nomination and vote that they made. It is interesting to note how active each player was in the nomination process.

We started with two Vampires in the Village, one fewer than the number of Werewolves we've had in the past. On Day 1, the Villagers succeeded in killing the first Vampire (Garett). However, the remaining Vampire (Giles) took out the Seer (Josiah) on Night 1, removing the Villagers' ability to scan for Vampires.

Dr. Hogg, a Mason, was known to be human by Mayor Felix, who was the other Mason. But there was little Felix could do to save the missing Dr. Hogg on Day 2.

Eig, the Prince, was munched on Night 2. Unfortunately, his ability doesn't work against Vampires.

Unfortunately, Vlad wasn't REALLY a troublemaker as he implied... he was really the town's Bodyguard. He watched over Aloysius on Night 1 and BosunJack on Night 2 before he was staked on Day 3.

Aloysius was bitten on Night 3 and managed to survive through Day 4... until the Villagers Staked him. He would have died on Night 4 of his bite wound... but the Villagers could have taken out a possible Vampire by choosing another target.

Igor was the Idiot. That doesn't mean he was stupid... but it meant that he had to vote to Stake anyone who was nominated. As that made Igor a threat, Giles munched him on Night 4.

Strangely, the Villagers went into a stupor on Day 5, and couldn't manage to Stake anybody, giving the Vampire another free victim on Night 5: Hugh Jabut. Yes, I was Hugh... the Pacifist. Hugh had to vote to Spare everyone who was nominated. Had Hugh lasted even one more day, it would have become almost impossible to get enough votes to Stake someone, thereby handing the victory to the Vampires.

BosunJack was the Priest. Jack decided to keep a low profile and saved his one-time protection ability until Night 5, when he decided to pray that Edmund might be saved the next time he was attacked.

As each day passed, Mayor Felix (the Mason) began wielding more and more control over the vote, as his two votes became a larger and larger percentage of the majority needed for a Staking. On Day 6, BosunJack broke his silence by nominating the Mayor. But by this time, the Mayor had become too powerful, and a nomination was almost all it took to Stake BosunJack.

On Night 6, Giles had only Felix and Edmund to choose from. His choice to kill Felix was the right one, because had he chosen Edmund, BosunJack's prayer of protection would have saved Edmund, and Day 7 would have arrived with all three villagers still alive. With Edmund having been attacked, he could have nominated Felix or Giles, and with the Mayor holding half the votes, the Mayor wasn't likely to let himself be Staked. Thus, Giles would have been the most likely to end up on the long end of a pointy stick.

As it turned out, Edmund was protected on Day 7 when he was attacked by Giles. The escape was short-lived, however, as Edmund was tracked down on Night 7. But see, Edmund's role was Cursed... which means, once he was successfully bitten, he turned into a Vampire... putting him on the winning side at the last minute.

Any comments or suggestions? I think I like the new nomination method of voting, but I'm curious as to whether you guys like it better or not. I definitely like the new Roles, and the fact that all the Roles aren't used in each game.

I want to list a few polls in the next day or two:
1) Best Roleplayer - use any criteria you want! Perhaps this vote will give people incentive to roleplay more in future games.
2) Most Influential Player - use any criteria you want! Again, I am hopeful that the vote will give people incentive to be active in future games.
3) Most Memorable/Surprising Moment - the moment that stood out most for you during the game that made you say, "Wow!" or "I completely didn't expect that!" Shoot me your suggestions for this category in this thread.
4) If there's any other poll that you think would be interesting, throw it out here as an idea!

 

Again Mike, another good game. I was suprised to last as long as i did, being Mayor would have made me and early target as others tried to get a controling vote, or so i thought.
The only thing to make it better would have been more people taking part or speaking up. There were too many abscence when players were needed. And the more taking part the more role play and more fun we could have had.

 

The Mayor's office does indeed put a target on your head... but the Mayor is pretty powerful if he can manage to survive. I'm surprised the Villagers didn't think you were a Vampire, considering how long you lasted!

Looking at how powerful the Mayor becomes in the late game, I think I may change it next game so that the Mayor isn't replaced once he is killed. If the Villagers and Vampires both choose to let the Mayor remain alive, as they did in this game, so be it.

 

As twizzle said, more activity would have been better, the chit chat seemed to be lower than the Werewolf games.

I'm with the others here, more activity makes for a better game. I would have said more but alas I was far too juicy a target...

Thanks again for the game Michael. Thoroughly enjoyable yet again.

As you're aware, Michael, I decided to stay quiet this game, to see if I could survive a while longer. However, my stupidity in my reading of the rules didn't help me throughout, and I only finally got it right when attemtping to save Edmund. It almost worked too. Of course, my major **** up was in nominating our Mayor for a staking. The two-vote system for the Mayor definitely doesn't help the others when you don't have many players left.

I'd definitely play again.
