No hard feelings mate :). Your post did suprise me abit, but I didn't take it to heart and it won't stop me from offering advice in the future, to yourself, or to others, regardless of how much information I can provide!

oh poopoo and I was gona leave a cunningly witty but cutting remark, but heyho, better hold off on that now.

IT - I googled your question and did a bit of a search but could not find a definitive answer. The one thig I did find is that there are loads of resources out there regarding RAID and the inference is, just turning it on in the bios will probably have no effect without you first loading in the RAID drivers/software for your mobo. Although don't take my word for it as I am no expert

I would suggest that your visit the mobo manufacturers web site and have a check there, maybe there's an answer in the FAQ page. Failing that, they likely have their own forum with specialist on that mobo who can give you a more complete answer.

Ummm.... How can you say I'm hostile when I put a smiley at the end of my post? Isn't that what you did? Why do you perceive me as being hostile for doing the exact same thing you did?

If you'll notice from reading my posts on this board, I always use that smiley to indicate a tongue-in-cheek response.

So, let me get this straight... considering *nobody* would know the answer since nobody knows what YOUR motherboard would do... you would rather that *nobody* answer, right?

Ask, and ye shall receive.

Would it be okay if I called you a moron or an idiot as long as I put smileys after it? Of course not. Similarly, it's not OK to say that DA doesn't know what he's talking about, particularly when DA's response was a good one.

...in fact, I think I'll give him rep for it.

Unless you know DA personally, I don't think you know him well enough to "mess around" by calling his intelligence into question... regardless of smileys.

As to the original question. If you google Raid, you will find there are different raid levels available. The most common being Raid 0, Raid 1 and Raid 5.

Some higher end motherboards (usually deluxe models) will offer up to level 5 raid and in some cases even higher. What will happen if you enable it on your Mobo in the BIOS? Not much probably. You may get an extra screen after the PC posts which allows you to setup the type of RAID you want by pressing a key combination.

Some recent mobo's have been advertising RAID as a feature but it's tricky to implement. Main because it's only possible to setup basic RAID levels and one of the hard disks needs to be attached to the external SATA port.

You are going to need at least two hard drives attached to your motherboard in order to use RAID 0 & 1, and at least three for RAID 5. Have a look in your motherboard manual for information on which connectors / interfaces actually support RAID if you want to go ahead with it.

Getting back to the original question I would check the mobo documentation to get some more info.

Messing around with RAIDs can cause data loss so be careful. In *most* cases you should get a warning stating that you will lose all the data on a disk when you make a change to the config of a RAID container but sometimes you don’t. :biggrin

No, but I am able to give advice on how to help members post productively. So you can take our advice, or you can continue to attack people here and find out how quickly people stop responding to your requests for assistance. That choice is up to you. :)

Mate- im not "attacking" anyone...have you read the posts you made up there^?? This issue was resolved about 5 hrs ago, and you decide to come in and give your two cents, furthermore provoking the RESOLVED issue. I was mature enough to apologise to DA, he accepted...end of story. Im sorry but having 8000+ posts does not mean you can help people post productively and you prooved it up there ^ by trying to add fuel to fire that was extinguished hours ago....is that productive?

Im trying to leave this issue alone and i feel have done the sensible thing by apologising. Iv got nothing against you personally either, you yourself have been very helpful to me in the web forums and i appreciate that. However if you feel you must stop giving me advice, then so be it, but you cant speak for the rest of this forum, nor the rest of the web as you can tell by the continued helpful posts by Sparky and other names i forget.
Again, i have nothing against you so please realise this issue has been resolved. :)
