Just look at this way David. In your own way you are helping people to better theirs and their families lives. Instead of just handing out a plate of food for a day you are giving them the resources for them to be able to buy their own food for life. I would rather my tax money went to help put someone though school so they atleast have a chance to survie on their own in the end then support someone for life that is to lazy to get off the couch till it is time to go to the pub.

Hah, so you look at my age and now you think because I'm 23 my opinion doesn't count? Seriously?

It doesn't matter how old people are, there are lazy benefit louches at all ages. I just stated that you're making an effort and not sitting on your hide living on benefits. What happened to you can happen to anyone and you obviously didn't choose this form of lifestyle. My issue is with those who choose to get into this life and stay in it.

I've worked in very crap/tough jobs since the age of 16, I'm entitled to my opinion of jobless benefit bums.

Come on guys, this is a good thread that is helping others. Let not turn it into a fight that will end up getting it locked. That will help no one in the end.

I agree. It's the latter I have issues with.

I was brought up by a single parent with no income support from the other. My mother worked full time in a crappy job the entire time she was bringing me up and she struggled constantly. These days all I see is young female wasters getting pregnant and having everything handed to them on a plate.

I don't mind seeing my money going to families like this, I know what it's like to be in that situation. What I do mind is knowing my money, and every other tax payer's money, is going to the type of people who sit around doing nothing all day every day and, like you said, look forward only to getting drunk.

well personally i don't drink at all,and i'm trying to train myself to the standard expected by an employer with the view of trying to get back into work.If i'm not goood enough for an employer i can think about self employment.
I personally have mental health problems so i'm not considered as ready for work, therefore i'm putting the time into good use studying.
People are doing these courses to better their future in a very competitive job market place, not to do the course,do nothing with the qualifications, and laze around, which would be a pointless exercise.
Would you rather people go onto computer work with no training at all?
Regarding government and wasting money there is plenty of it already going on,northern rock and the war in iraq i view as pointless exercises, where money has been wasted on a grand scale.
These courses are costing a tiny proportion of government funds, and the idea i expect is to to train, and get the money back from the trainee via tax contributions when they do find work at a later stage.

Im going to sit on the fence here because I agree with both sides, I think Davemid's initial post was worded badly and isnt actually relevant to this thread because it doesnt seem to be about somebody who can't be arsed to work. But I do agree with him that money shouldnt go to the people who can't be bothered to work, im not prepared to go into detail because I end up getting carried away and offensive.

We all pay in to the system as a back up for if times get bad for whatever cirumstances it may be and I have no qualms about my money going towards helping somebody who is down on their luck to dust themself off and try again. I know of several people who don't work due to laziness or an intermittent disability that seems to disappear on a saturday night, they are the people I have no time for.

Sorry guys I didn't mean to spark an argument :blink

But I can see where its coming from. I mean the majority take the pi** and sit on there arses with no good reason and the people who actually wanna do something get put in with the majority who don't.

I won't go into detail why I am on benefit. But I tried to work and I got into debt because the council gave me a short term council house which costs like a mortgage. Ive been on job seekers and sorted out my debts and now I'm due to move to a normal rent council house.

I'm really pleased I am doing my A+ course because it will help me with getting a job. My training provider is also a repair shop, so I can put it down as work experience too as I help in there occasionally. So all I am getting has really helped me out :thumbleft

Err, sorry to give this a rather large 'bump'

I'm currently employed but generally work under 16 hours a week hence being on JSA. I've just started reading up for A+ right now and was wondering if people were getting help with exam fees? It's a lot to fork out when I'm barely working.

I can't find any college near me that provides the A+, but one does have a CCNA course starting up in January which I'm now considering as well.

They're only for use in USA/Canada though right? They don't look much cheaper either I'm afraid to say.

Will shop around and see, who knows.
