    What was the question again?
Was it banning an ip or banning a CF member. Because there have been members banned on CF for posting Braindumps Website and I seem to remember one CF Member was banned back in April 2006 for using Bad Language?

    q) Those CF members that are banned, does this mean they can't log onto the site and edit threads?

    q) can't you see the last octect of the ip address?

    q) what about cookies?

mmmm cookies, chocolate cookies are the best

If a member is banned, their account is basically locked so that they can't log in with it. Hence they are not able to post at all.

We can see the complete IP address and hence can find out a lot of information regarding the posters location and ISP.

What about cookies? Cookies can easily be deleted on the client and of course they have no effect if you are logging in from another computer.

You can see the complete IP address? even if they have a rock solid firewall? I only ask because I use Zone Alarm and it has a function in the setup to hide the ip address.

For a normal IP connection you *have* to see the full address - how else does the server know where to send the reply packets!

If you use a proxy or an anonymiser then of course the return address is the proxy, not the original sender.

NAT is another thing that will change the return address - but only from a Private one to the valid public one for that connection.

Normal firewalls won't change any of this.
