At work backup is high on the list of important jobs, but at home!! Well thats a different story. You'll be happy to know that I back up the forum data once a week, sometimes more so at least I'm not too much of a Doh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at home.

I firmly believe "it will never happen to me" :badi :behead

I backup maybe once a year

It does help that I have a copy of most stuff on my laptop and desktop - but still not the best for someone hoping to be in the IT trade :!:

I got caught out twice last year  the second time was when I'd left my HDD hanging out the side of my PC while I rebuilt it, I wandered off doing other stuff.......for several months. I then clumsily dropped another Hard drive on top of it - clumsy oaf. Now that was a real DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! moment :(

    and I still haven't learned.

Jeez, am I some kind of angel here ??? :angel

I mean, although I don't work in IT, at home I backup at least once a fortnight, or whenever I add and significant docs/apps to my system.

Saying that, I just run the backup, then generally fire it across the network to another machine - seldom on to disk (unless it's really important)

And apps, drivers, etc I make disk copies of ....am I some kind of wierdo ????

I always tell my lesser computer savvy mate to backup regularly, but do I do it myself?

Do I heck. I may be tempting fate here, fingers crossed, touching wood, I've had no catastrophic comp failures where I've loads of data.

I'll now probably disappear for a couple for a couple days after my hard drive starts making strange noises. :D

Um, I backup to tape (200GB Ultrium drive) twice a year maybe? (it costs about 300 quid a time on tapes!! lol)
I generally just dump everything on my file server, with some local copies of important docs, drivers and stuff i can re download, all i keep on CD is the ethernet drivers just incase

it gets quite a hassle backing up constnatly when you have almost 2TB of crap to keep an eye on

at work it was even more of a pain, we could go through 5 or 6 200gb tapes a day, and there pushing 80 quid each, and the backups took over 13 hours :/
tried to get them to hook the library up directly to the SAN, but they never did lol
