    Hi all,

Been away from the forums for a while. After I'd failed my Network+ I thought that was it, end of the world and all that. But after a long period of reflection and some good breaks, I finally got myself a job in IT!

Working for a small firm that has offices in 4 other countries, I now manage the servers and all that comes with that. A great opportunity which I'm really thankful for. My previous job as a postie is now in the past, and I'm much warmer thanks to the heating in the new office :)

So, my advice is, from my own experience, don't give up trying for a new job even if you don't get the qualifications you want.

I'm still going to redo my N+ and am now also working on my MCP. And yes, it is easier to study when you're actually working day in, day out with the technology you read about.

Nice to be back, and sorry I disappeared for so long. Out of the rough times came some good :)

    Fsi

Just goes to show, it's not about what qualifications, knowledge or experience you have, it's about hard work, effort and perseverance.

    Well done, fsimeta!

    Thanks all :)

I read another thread where IT Matt was giving advice on interviews and I have to agree about the 30 second rule. They either like you or they don't and in some cases, it's a case of if you get on with not just the person (boss) you'll be working with, but the personnel manager as well!

So it's a lot about how you present yourself, and also understanding how employers think. Tricky I know, but as people have been saying, it's not all just about the qualifications. It's good to get your first IT job, the feeling is great; and when you realise you CAN do it when you actually do the job that boosts your confidence as well.

So don't give up anyone who is reading this. Keep on the path, slow sure steps, with a few mistakes here and there and you WILL get there in the end. The path may be windy and wobbly, but at least it's a path :)

Good luck to everyone else who is trying to get a role in IT.

I had an interview today, technical sales support. I thought it went well but of course anything can happen. That's the worst part of applying, the interview and the wait. What I've done is change track slightly, I've always done admin so I did a search in the 'admin dept' and came up with this one. They want admin plus technical support. Best of both worlds. Anyway I'll know on Friday and if I'm not successful, I'm not giving up!!

That's the spirit! All these mistakes we make in life, are just hurdles to get over. But...it still feels like a dark cloud has descended on you when they happen. It's just I think we're afraid when bad things happen because we don't have a guide to show us what will happen in the future. But out of crappy times, can come some good :)
