Been doing some research on the 365 certs (they've changed a lot), two exams to get the Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert cert:

Microsoft 365 Identity and Services MD-100
Microsoft 365 Mobility and Security MD-101

I have about 3 years experience working with 365 though it's changed massively and I've not kept too up-to-date with it all but I think I can pull this off with some studying. I remember someone on here saying they were going for this (can't remember who), do you think this is a worthy certificate? I do like 365 work don't get much chance to play with it anymore but it used to be my baby. I have been researching and researching on what area of IT I need to break into and the 365 cloud seems to be the way to go, and considering I have some knowledge of it, it might be my exit out of the mundane helpdesk work.

I have the books for the exams you have noted.

I would say it is worthwhile and for studying I would suggest setting up an Office 365 from tenant from scratch and test Azure AD sync etc.

yeah I started watching some study videos for it, looking at the first exam Id say I have practical experience of around 85% of it but some of it I don’t really know so will have to dabble with labs. I’m not so hot with some of the authentication side of things with servers which is throwing me off abit.

Yeah moving from Exchange to O365 usually means Azure AD sync etc.

What resources are you using? I’m using ITPRO.TV and have ordered the book (for the MS-100)

That bit isn’t difficult I’ve dealt with AD Connect before. The bits I don’t know are server infrastructure like the inner workings ADFS, Sites, Forests etc.. I guess these things can be easily learnt from Google though but not sure how deep you need to know all this. My knowledge of server environments is basically just user account management. I know the theory behind alot of it but not so much practically.

I appear to have made a mistake, the first exam is MS-100 and the second is MS-101.. the book you linked to is for the MD-100 which is the Windows 10 cert not 365, so we might be talking about two different things. Not 100% sure what the MS and MD stand for with these exams tbh.

Installing it isn’t difficult but all the points you mention make it a challenge – especially when migrating away from Exchange in multi domain environment.

Ugh so I've found out something about the exam, you actually need to pass one of the preqs to get the Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert cert.. I honestly thought they were just advisory preqs but if you actually read what its saying, you need to have passed one of the other exams (I didn't bother really reading it and made assumptions, which is totally my fault). This changes things as I don't know if this cert is now worth it, especially now I've also found out that it expires after two years.

Still worth getting though - where are you getting the info that it expires? Throught the exam would have been retired instead.

In all honesty I've got this from word of mouth from a couple people but can't find any info online to say whether it is good for life or expires, but apparently all these specialist certs have a 2 year date on them where you have to recertify 2 years after passing, again all from word of mouth but I've heard this from atleast two different people.

Looking at the pre-reqs the only exam I'd want to go for is the MS-500 "Microsoft 365 Security Administration", to make it worth while, however unfortunetly the exam ref isn't out until April and I can't find any resources such as videos (guessing becasue its technically still in BETA). Only thing I could find thats useful is this: https://intunedin.net/2019/01/21/pr...rosoft-365-security-administration-exam-beta/

So I guess I'll just wait really, I do like the look of the Microsoft 365 Certified: Teamwork Administrator Associate, and the first exam which is based on SharePoint online would be a breeze, but then the second is based on SharePoint On-Prem which I only really know the basics and really only ever worked with SharePoint 2010, but interms of SP farms etc I'm pretty clueless.

Until its official from Microsoft it’s just rumours isn’t it? I’m still waiting for Microsoft to stop releasing Exchange server (rumour since Exchange 2016) and also stop using pubic folders in Exchange as well (rumour since Exchange 2007). I take it you can see where I’m coming from here.

Plenty of certs to go for it seems – I still wouldn’t dismiss the MD-100 at this stage until the other exams are released.

    I get what you’re saying..

tbh I only really go for certs that I have knowledge of the content in the objectives, if I have 60% or more I’m willing to go for it. The MD-100 might be out of scope for me, my IT experience is really just 1st-2nd line support, most the Windows 10 issues I’ve dealt with have been quick fixes. When it comes to big deployment methods etc, I’m clueless really.

My main skills lay within Office 365 and is the platform I’d like to pursue my career in, I’ve been the lead in a migration of a few hundred users and learnt a lot from that.. must have read 1000 MS documents pulling that off with not much knowledge (at the time), but I really enjoy 365 work.

Office\Microsoft 365 work is really in demand – there are still companies that want to move to the cloud and also companies that have already made the jump but want to use more of the products available (e.g. SharePoint and Teams) and also look at Cloud Security.
