Small world Trip,

I grew up in Nevada as well. Moved to Vegas in about '54, father was stationed at Nellis. I must admit though, I never heard the test site referred to as the Mercury test site. I suppose if you lived in Mercury, it may have been a common reference.

NightWalker - If you made it all the way up to Yosemite, it's a shame you couldn't have gone a little farther to Lake Tahoe, just a bit outside of Reno on the California line. The scenery there will rival Yosemite any day in my opinion. Maybe if you make it back. To the east of Vegas in Arizona is also the Grand Canyon. Another short trip well worth making.

Charleston was a regular weekend spot for us. Camping in the summer, sledding and skating in the winter. Great place to get out of the desert for a bit.

Only found it a couple of months ago as I also plan to move to the US.
