I don't work for them, however over all my experiance has been very positive, they seem to go out of their way to help you (as they should for the £4.5K+ that you pay).

However they do provide a good structure and some hands on training for those who are confused with what and where to go.

Also being registered with a TP looks good to employers as you can say "i am training on my own time with a national registered training firm" - this is partly what got me my current job.

So yes it is (very) expensive, and yes the certs should righlty be the focus but there is benefits there for people who aren't as self motivated as most of the people here.

yep that'sone of the question you could ask in your poll!

The good thing about setting up a poll Mr Machifisto is that you don't have to be a top poster(you know the one's that rule the roost) to set one up! :tongue:biggrin

    Anyone can do it!

That's Ok I did the same thing on my 1st attempt.

When posting a poll a thread is created it's here you type why you have set up the poll what question you want to ask and the title of the poll.

Then at the bottom of the thread (before you click on submit) you can select to setup a thread with poll and how many questions you want in the poll. Then after submit button another screen is shown with boxes for the titles of the question to be asked on the poll!

If you still get problems! Just PM me the questions and I will setup the poll for you!

    Goodluck!:thumbleft

I went with Advent, the guy from Computeach struck me as not able to differentiate between his arse and Elbow, the National training college didn't come across with much confidence and web searches on either didn't turn up much.

I found as many bad comments about Advent as I did good ones but at least a balanced opinion came across so I went with them.

Yes its expensive but at least there is a structure there (and someone to kick my arse if I fall behind)

So is Advent a national company? I have never heard of National learning college, where are they from?

    How is your course going?

When I say national, it is a distance learning company so they have a physical base (well 2 actually, Hagley and Kidderminster - both Birmingham way) so they mail you the books but bring you in for courses and some exams.

The course is going well, I pushed it back almost a year as I settled in to my new job and have rocked through my A+ recently and am hoping to sit 70-271 (the first part of the MCDST) at the end of August.

They now have a testing centre on site, and I found that the two days of slightly more hands on stuff doen fot the 602 part of the A+ was a nice refresher and sitting the exam directly after was a big help.

I have managed to get agreement from them that if I can jump the on-line mocks (read hoops) before I go I can sit the exam at the end of the second day which I find beneficial.

So they will help you and change what they do (slightly) as long as you meet their standards for the exam.

Basically what I am trying to say is it was a lot of money but I have spent money on far worse things then investing in myself.
