Oh, there's a window option is there..? lol :biggrin

As I remember it looks exactly like the normal set up screen, it shows a version of xp already installed and asks if I want to install on that partition (no mention at this stage of size). That's when I start clucking and go down the F3 route!

    Cheers chaps,

vmware should be running in window mode by default mate
make sure you were not trying to actually install XP on ur host OS again when u inserted the XP CD lol

you should only see unpartitioned space in a new VM, not an OS

I think it's trying to install over the top of the host OS then. Good job I got F3 finger! :biggrin

When I open up the new guest and click power on it asks for the installation CD. I dutifully whack it in (ooeer) and of course the CD spins up and asks the normal questions about installation etc. How should this display/perform in VMware rather than from the normal set up?

I'm going to have a play over the weekend so no doubt it'll be daft questions galore.

    Thanks again,

    J.

Right, thanks mate. How do you go about starting the installation from within VMware then, as I obviously must have started it from the CD iself?

Sorry to be such a nob (and no, I didn't miss out an 'o' :biggrin ).

    Cheers,

I thru this up on soapbox mate, and the embedded player is on my blog linked below
    hope it helps

ignore the bit about selecting the CDrom source, im using an ISO on a file server, ur using a CD in the drive of the host so u dont need to change anything

The video is short and to the point with no audio, sorry it was a rushed job whilst i explored the possibilities :)
