    Afternoon,

why is it when i set the line console 0 password and reload the router it doesnt save my password? it just goes straight to user mode.

If i dont reload and just exit all the way out and then try to get into user mode it will ask for a console password. Strange, why is this?

Am i suppose to copy the running-config to the startup-config?

    thanks

You will need to write the config to start config, otherwise you are only making changes in the current environment. Once written to the startup config then it should ask you every time.

Try it and see! Only way to learn! ;-)

thanks for the reply, right what i did was set up a console password then in enable mode i copied the running config to the startup config. It then asked for a file destination which lead me to press the enter key. Done no errors but when i turn off my router it starts with the set up mode which i exit but no prompt for the console password.

Just typing "wr" should be enough.

Please copy whatever output you're getting if that doesn't work?

i think you may have the wrong confreg setting......did you change it to reset the config at some point? It should be 0x2102...yours is probably 0x2142 which is what you change it to to make the router bypass the startup configuration file.

You will need to send a break command during bootup of the router to get to rommon mode then type something like "confreg 0x2102" (no quotation marks)

thanks mate, working now. Had the wrong confreg settings. Had 0x2142 instead of 0x2102.
