my goal is to get the A+ Network+ and Security+...........

    Where do I start?
I would love some guidance as I'm really confused

I see that there is different tests for the A+
    which one is the best?

I have the comptia complete A+study guide and the Mike Meyers A+ book

what are some good books for the Network+ and Security+?
also what would be some Microsoft Certs I should gear towards for starting Off?
what kind of money am I looking at?

I would like to get off on the right foot

    thanks in advance

To attain the A+ certification you must pass two exams, A+ Essentials (220-601) and either IT Technician (220-602), Remote Support Technician (220-603) or Depot Technician (220-604). Most people choose to do 220-602, and unless you specifically require 603 or 604, you should too. There isn't a great deal of difference between all three.

    That's a good start :D

I don't know about Security+, but for Network+ the Sybex book (by David Groth) and the All in One Guide are good. Keep in mind that the current, 2007 exam, retires at the end of June, so you may want to look at the newer editions of the aforementioned books that cover the 2009 version of the exam (N10-004). The Network+ lasts forever, so if you can get the 2007 one before June, there's no reason why you shouldn't.

I'd look at doing A+, N+ and S+ first, but the MCDST is a good starting place.

Spending - the cost of books, your time, and the exams (on average £100/each)
Receiving - that depends on how good you are, rather than how good your CV is :D

    Two ways of getting it:

    1. Attending a course, then sitting the 2 required exams or
    2. Self-studying it, then sitting the 2 required exams

There is no "best" one, the most common one is the IT tech one. All the different A+'s all have the essential part in common, which specialism you go for is up to you :)

    That's a good start

For the Network+ exam, I used the MSPress one. For the security+ exam, I used the Syngress book

MS exams are £88 (can't remember if VAT is added), the starting point for them would be the MCDST, MCTS Vista, MCAS Vista...

    Hope that helps :)

2007 exam objectives for the Net+ retire on JULY 31st.
Although probably a moot point since the OP has only just started the A+.
