Karen is a network administrator for a Windows Server 2003 AD network. She wants to set software restrictions on the client computers in her company’s domain so that she can control which programs will run on the staff’s computers. Currently, her network runs in Windows 2000 Mixed Mode and the user computers run a variety of operating systems such as Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional. She administers a single domain structure with five Windows Server 2003 domain controllers. She believes this will enable her to implement software restriction but one of her junior admins disagrees. Which of the answers below is correct?

    A. Karen is correct. Software restrictions is a new feature with Windows Server 2003 that is backwardly compatible with all Windows client operating systems back to Windows NT.

    B. Karen and her junior admin are both partly correct. Software restrictions can be implemented from in a Windows Server 2003 domain but only on Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional client machines.

    C. Karen is not correct. While Windows Server 2003 can implement software restrictions in the domain, they can only be applied to Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 machines.

    D. Neither is correct. The software restrictions feature for Windows Server 2003 is in beta testing and will be released with the next major service pack.

Ok...correct answer time. The correct one is C. Neat feature, but can only be implemented on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP machines. I'm being far too easy on you. More tomorrow.
