I'd say higher than that. Partly because of exam nerves, and partly because nearly all the practice exams are not quite like the real ones.

That happened to me when I went to sit the CCNA. There was a testing center on campus at the uni I was attending. I got to know the center director. The day of my exam, I walked in...she took one look at me and which a shocked look on her face said "It's today?"

To her credit, she really tried to make it happen for me, but there was something wrong with the system. They couldn't download and initialize the testing database properly. I had to wait a few extra days to go back in but it all worked out.

Hang tough, Zimbo. You'll nail it yet. :)

All (that I know of) IT certification exams are computerised.

When you schedule one through either Prometric or VUE you go to the testing centre and log onto a PC which has downloaded the exam.

When you complete the test and submit your score it is automatically marked and you are given instant notification of your result.

If by written, you mean pencil and paper...no. It's taken on the computer. You'll be given some writing material to use during the test but it will be taken away from you once the test is over (It sometimes helps to write down "hard-to-remember" information such as IRQs right before you start the test so you don't have to dredge it up out of memory once you are actually in process).

Basically, when you sit down at the computer, the testing center taps into CompTIA's database and questions are loaded onto the center's server from that database. That's what comprises your exam. As I recall, the test is timed and once time is up, the test terminates and you are scored.

You receive a score right then and there which can be both comforting and unnerving. Assuming you pass, the center staff will print out a copy of the results which act as proof of your certification (if you passed both A+ tests that is) until the certificate arrives by mail.

After the exam terminates but before you get your score, you'll have to take some dodgy survey about your exam experience. It's the same on Microsoft exams as well. Kind of a pain, but there's no way around it I know.
