Has anyone seen this before? If you try and make a folder and call it "CON" without the quotes, it wont let you.:)

Um i don't think you can create folders with names that relate to system type info such as lpt1 lpt2 etc and con used to be an old DOS command to output information to the screen otherwise known as the console.

That's true unless you have a symbol in the name such as

    _con or c_o_n:biggrin

Other folder names that you can't use

con (you know that already), nul & prn

If you want to create a folder called con, you can via the CLI, here's ther command:

    mkdir \\.\c:\con

to remove the directory, here's the command:

    rmdir \\.\\c:\con

I believe you can't use these names as they are used for batch entry.

This goes back to ancient MSDOS. Certain names were 'pre-allocated' at every directory level - those names were basicaly I/O names - CON, LPT, COMx etc.

At one time there was a switch to allow those names to exist as long as they weren't in the root dorectory - no idea if this is still true or not.
