    Hey guys,

Just joined up on here after seeing loads of good stuff. I'm looking to get my A+, with a possibility of network + in the future. I've already bought a bunch of books (Mike Meyers etc), but I got in touch with www.comptia-certification.co.uk and they're offering A+ and Network+ for 499 pounds plus VAT.

The thing is, I just got an email from the guy I was in touch with say that someones just cancelled and now he can offer me: A+, Network+, Server+ and Security+ for that price of 499 + VAT, but only (and here's the dodgy part) if I take it by the end of the day (18th Jan 08). Now obviously, this is just resources (online and CD) and 24hr mentor support, but to be honest, it all sounds very sales pitchy with me. It's a good price from what I've seen, as they usually go for 299 each, but apparently I'm getting it cheaper because I don't have to pay that persons deposit, but I need to tell him by the end of the day or it all goes back onto the system.

What do you guys think? Have any of you had experience with this company? A quick response would be appreciated, as obviously, I'm on a bit of a deadline!!

    Thanks in advance, Tom.

Hi mate, I would stick with your orginal plan. You will be wasting the £499+ - because I too smell a rat! You will still have to pay for the exams (NO WAY thats included in the £499+!!!) and frankly who knows what material you will get for that kind of money. OH and as for 24 hour mentor support? TRUST ME this is no the case - BUT guess what - you want 24 hour support - I think you will get it here on CF cause there is someone online 24-7 (need it be in the US, UK or Australia) so as you can see we have a proven track record with 24 hour support! :biggrin

Use amazon quickly and see the price of books - wont total to £499 - much less and you sure you will get what you paid for.

    Good luck!

    Hi Welcome

I was going to go with these lot, before I found self study.

Its is funny how prices differ from student to student, I was going to be charged £750 and that was just for the A+. I was impressed with their on-line demo but at the end of the day I couldn't part with the money.

If you have the books then you are sorted no need for a course, I am glad I found CF before I signed up to this place.

BTW they are not called comptia-certification.co.uk the company name is completely different I can't remember what they are actually called but I queried this with them when I found out and got a very cold response, so this put me off even further.

I am not saying they are using underhand practices but with you saying what you are being charged and what I was going to be charged a 10 months a go smells a bit fishy to me.

    Good luck with your studies.

Hey Tom, welcome to the Forums!

I was in a similar situation as well... And I have decided to save my hard earned pounds to pay for the books and exams cost. I will be my own teacher (and the rest of people that is helping me out).

When you are thinking in starting to study ?

Oh and by the way, this might be my paranoid side speaking already, but... The site looks exactly like a template I came across a long time ago. :ohmy
    Be wary.

For that kind of money, save it and do it yourself. If anything, invest that money into a small network of your own, something you will be able to use time and time again. You will find plent of mentors and help here when you have questions are just feeling aggervated about something that is not clicking right for you at the moment. You can not ask for a better support group then this site. Plus you have the added bonus of techs at all levels with hands on exp that are willing share it with you for free. Welcome to the site and gl.

    Hi Tom,

Take the time to think this through. Any time a sales person tells you that you have to act now or you'll miss out, they're usually setting up a smoke screen to pressure you into an impulse purchase. No legitimate company is going to disappear by the end of the day. They'll have more offers.

I can't say that all training providers are bad, but don't let yourself be talked into going with someone that will not allow you the time to research their company. They're simply trying to push the sale.

Self study can be an option and the use of a qualified training facility can have it's advantages for some. Just don't sign up because their deadline is expiring. The IT industry isn't going anywhere.

If it's too good to be true, it might just be...
Do your homework and don't fall for an old sales tactic.

Thanks for all the help guys. I already had a bunch of books when I was offered the deal, and I'd already read a fair chunk of Mike Meyers All-in-one, but hearing it from all of you really helped, so I've decided to just read through the books and teach myself. I'm sure you'll be hearing from me soon though!

    Cheers, Tom
