Yeah but 497million EUROS is peanuts to Microsoft isnt it? Why would anyone want a version of XP without Windows Media Player? I mean people still have the option of Quick Player and Real Player...right? its like telling Apple to remove Quick Time so people can use other players...whats the flaming point? Media Player is part of Windows like Quick TIme is part of Apple:blink

I agree selling XP without Media Player would be a pain in the neck, they might start charging for the App if they have to distribute seperate as well so it ain't going to benefit the consumer in any way.

The problem is Microsoft have taken a good majority of the pie, people want a slice of the money so they are going to keep fighting until they get it.

i believe that the EU has stipulated that microsoft cannot charge less for the with media player version, to prevent them from overcoming the problem by making everyone want to buy the cheaper. but they COULD charge more for the with media player option. i dont think so though - microsoft WANTS to integrate media player into its software.
