Sorry. That wasn't meant as any sort of shot a Christmas or anyone celebrating, but I remember the entire build up to Christmas, the arrival of "the day" the Christmas present "feeding frenzy", food preparation and feasting and all that...and then eventually turning on the tube or doing something else because we'd run out of planned holiday activities.

Anybody out there gotten to that point and are loitering around CF to see "what's happening"?

For me, it's just around 7:30 a.m. I woke up about half an hour ago. Believe it or not, for me, this is "sleeping in". Of course, I was up until about 11 last night. I was snowing "cats and dogs", if such a metaphor is possible, and my wife and daughter and I were marveling at how it's just going to keep snowing off and on around here for the foreseeable future.

What's happening with the lot of you today?

was up untill 2 last night putting out the pressies, then up at 7 this morning for kids to open thiers. Been browsing online since then as i didnt get much anyway. Kids playing with thiers, played a bit with them aswell. I've cooked dinner, put on teh new homebrew (3 eeks till i can have theat) and sprayed a basecoat ona model. Now i'm bored again.

I think part of teh problem is that the run up to xmas is so long now, it loses something on the day. heck i only put the tree up on friday and thats our only decoration as i dont see the point. Its not special to me, and it feels like an effort to make it enjoyable fo rteh kids, yet it shoudnt be. Maybe its just me as for teh past 6 years i've always had a bad time at xmas (Wife telling me she wanted a divorce on xmas day 5 years ago, a friend dying 3 years ago on same day, and arguments with my parents each year with them walking out of teh house each time.) I'd prefer it to be a normal day.

So i spend it online. and get drunk!

Your avatar and this post is very amusing for some reason! :biggrin

I'm bored out my head, tbh. Will be gaming a little later, but "Christmas" seems just like another day to me as it has for some years now.

I'm sorry to hear how difficult things have been, Twizz. I know my wife never liked Christmas (she wasn't raised Jewish) because her parents always argued over money around that holiday. I know that since our family stopped "celebrating" Christmas, we've gained a great deal of peace during this time of year. Sure, there have been some awkward moments trying to explain what we're doing and why, but it's been more than worth it.

I hope you can get past this and move on.

Thanks Trip. I do try to get over it, but normaly i do that by being busy, such as cooking dinner for xmas day. Then i get drunk. Let the kids run riot and have thier fun. My 2 enjoy the presents and thats something, plus they see thier grand parents for a few days over teh hols.

For me i just wait for it all to be over. If that makes me a grinch i'm ok with it. So ling as my kids are happy, dosent matter about me.

It's a thursday that feels like a saturday to me, to be honest. I worked this whole week except for today and back to work tomorrow. I'll be honest, it feels kind of weird to have to go back to work tomorrow, so it doesn't really feel like a holiday. Although we did have dinner and celebrated. I usually look forward to new years, when the parties are happening!!

I hate Christmas - always have done, even since I was a kid. I don't believe in the religious aspects of it, hate the commerciality of it and I always overeat because I love roast dinners at ANY time of the year and can't control myself.

It bores me witless, and I have to spend hours with the bloody out-laws. In fact, the only thing that I hate more than Christmas is New Year's sodding Eve.

Well didn't actually get to bed early last night was up till 1:26am to be precise... spent a considerable amount of time chatting up my girlfriend since we wont be together on the day.. woke up early this morning cuz I had to attend an Hour of Worship, after that came back and tucked up before I took off to my granny's place... later caught up with some of my friends and we all went out to get a couple of beer... back some minutes ago and resumed surfing the web... had a nice time though:D

Glad he's working, Mitzs. Just got off the phone with my daughter-in-law. I haven't had much of a relationship with her and when I was talking with David earlier, I neglected to ask to speak to Kim. The missus chewed me up pretty good over that one, so I called Kim back on her cell.

We actually had a good conversation. She's due to give birth in the middle of February sometime. Talking about the whole Christian vs. Jewish thing...at least in relation to celebrating Christmas and Chanukah. They had decided not to do anything this year and save their limited resources for when the baby is born. Probably a good idea.

Next year at this time, David will be deployed and Kim and little Landon (my grandson-to-be) will be back here in Idaho. I suggested she celebrate Christmas with her folks and come over to our place to light the Menorah, eat latkes, and play dreidel. The little guy will have two heritages to draw on, and he might as well be exposed to them from day one. I'd personally prefer that they raise him a Jew, but that's up to the parents and not me (and I didn't tell Kim that).

Been trying to get a start on a writing project in the middle of all this chaos. Imagine if we actually celebrated Christmas how nutsy it would be... :biggrin

Good for your wife! And I am glad you called her. It is not a nice feeling to go though life thinking your inlaws don't like you. She is part of your family now so you might as well take her into your heart and love her like she is one of your own. Give it time it will come as long as your heart is open.

Are you writing for works or do you have another project in the works?

It's one of those things I can't talk about yet. When I get the "green light", I'll be able to share the details. I'm sure most people around here will want to hear about it.

I had an astonishingly civilised Christmas. Have been on CF throughout on my Blackberry, just checking stuff out :)

Spent Xmas Eve and the day with Martin and his parents. He's been ill, so the day itself we got up about 9am and had a cooked breakfast at 10. His parents had to walk their dogs (beautiful Irish Red and White setters) so Martin tried to relax and I read my 'Hut voller Sterne' slowly.

His Dad was back around midday so we had a celebratory scotch then... Dinner at 3, didn't open pressies till 6. Nice to be away from the grasping commerciality and frenetic family-pleasing that usually abounds this time of year.

Being of the same New Year disposition as Zeb, I will either be doing uni work (assignment due) or reading up on German, or playing Raving Rabbids TV party.

Has been the most relaxed Christmas on record (with one or two personal exceptions) and I'm all the better for it.

And as a bonus, I was meant to be back to work 4:30am Sunday- but thanks to the New Year being 'moved' in Dubai, that's changed to Monday
