Despite the growing popularity of IT, there is still a shortage of women going into IT according to the British Computer Society.

Which means the IT Profession is dominate by the male gender.

    Source:- BCSWomen 8)

" It is a fact that there is still a big shortage of women in this area. Yet those that do take this route will normally find themselves in work that is very interesting, and in an environment that is dynamic and highly motivated. They can however miss female contact in their work place "

So maybe this is why there is a small number of Female Members here at CF?:biggrin

UCM - I'm starting to worry about you.

You appear to be somewhat obsessed with this topic - resurrecting old threads about once every two months, creating new threads...

Personally, I only of 2 women that currently work in IT (not counting the wonderful girls on this forum) and we recently offered a trainee IT admin/helpdesk post to a girl (six months ago, don't get me started it's a long story). Apart from that I know of more women who have left the IT industry cause it wasn't what they wanted or it didn't suit their lifestyle (eg single parent, shift work, etc).

There may be a couple of factors working here. First off, IT is still generally a male-driven career and the fellows in IT may not make it particularly easy for women to enter and advance.

Women who are drawn towards a technical career, might choose one that doesn't put them in the server room. When I was at Micron working with software engineers, there was only one woman on a team of 15 people. Now that I'm working at Sakson and Taylor, a company that specializes in developing technical content, the gender balance is pretty much equal.

I've worked with plenty of women in IT. Both my level 1 techs at my previous employer were women, as was the Application Systems Manager.
