    I worked on the checkouts at tesco and as a Kitchen porter (both during studying at college).

    I worked for Tandy (remember them?) when I was 18. Did some bar work in clubs in Liverpool before I got my lucky break :D

    I went from Labourer on a building site to Data Input to IT... and have stayed put! :biggrin

    I think we've done this before...

    I have been, at various times in my life:

    Fishmonger (Smelly, dirty, cold, wet and painful)
    Hod-Carrier (ridiculously hard physically)
    Bricklayer (boring)
    Roofer (dangerous)
    Library Assistant (fascinating and dull at the same time)
    Industrial Relations (Trade Union Side chair representing 3,000 employees from four different Trade Unions)

    I had about 17 years in Financial Services working for building societies (including p/t whilst doing my degree) and 5 of them as an independent financial adviser with my own business.

    Moved into IT full time in '98 :biggrin

    Assistant Manager in a leisure centre. Was there for 18 years or so. Great job but a change in management forced a move, that and I hated split shifts.

    Before IT, I worked in sales for a decorative paving manufacturer.

    I was headhunted into their sales team from the yard, where I drove a forklift and manually packed slabs.

    I went into that physically atrocious job after leaving Asda, where I worked as a Warehouse and Trading Standards supervisor.

    I had the usual range of 'teenage' jobs too (and some not so normal).

    Between 13 and 16 I:

    was a waitress, and a silver service waitress (yes, there is a difference)
    had a paper round
    worked on ice cream vans
    canvassed for a window cleaning company
    collected money for a window cleaning company

    The only job that will ever lure me away from IT will be writing.

    Thank you Arroryn, I'll take you up on that. Seeing as I've done so well keeping this years resolution to get some major certs, I might make it my resolution on the 1st of Jan 2010 to finish at least a short story. Thanks for the good idea! James

    I hated reach trucks. Never trusted 'em. Or my eyesight. Or judgement.

    Once knocked a pallet slightly off the rack and it wedged in on the top row. It was thankfully only Walkers crisps, but it was still embarassing :oops:

    A 5 tonne-rated diesel forklift was by far the most fun one I ever drove.
