Hi, I'm one of the Advent scammed, and i'm just wondering which route should i take. I would like to get into networking or security side of things, of cause the CompTIA A+ plus is the start, but where to go from there, Advent gave me a list
    CompTia A+
    MCP
    MCDST - 70-271, 70-272
    MCSA - 70-270, 70-290
    MCSE - 70-294, 70-291, 70-293, 70-298, 70-284

now I have started to think that they just gave me these to do just to take my money and not consider which career choice I wanted, could someone please advise me on what courses to take for a career in networking or security

    Thanks

Well first not many people get into networking or security straight away. Those jobs usually need a lot of experience and this is regradless of what certs you have, no network manager will let you loose on their network unless you have experience.

Most people work their way into those jobs from a support or IT tech role, you should do A+,N+ and MCDST and possibly security + and get an entry level job before persuing any other certs.

The MCSA requires atleast 6 months as a network admin and the MCSE atleast 12 months as a Systems admin.

    This.

Actually, it doesn't require it. Microsoft recommends the experience but they do not require it. And I'd recommend the same.

And to further clarify, it's not 6 months as a network admin for the MCSA... it's 6 months as a server admin. :) Gotta be careful with that terminology, GBL... ;)

Sorry about that it was 07:34am and I have been up since yesterday doing a mass failover on some old servers and then rebuilding them. Which was fun :D

Pah, I once did from 7.30am on a Friday morning thru until 4pm on a Monday afternoon rebuilding and restoring the main Print and File Server (Novell IntraNetware) for the Red Cross, during that time I had 5 hours sleep.... all weekend.

To top it off, I got back to my car to find it had been stolen, joyridden and put back in a different car parking space (and kit from it stolen :()

A weekend I will always remember (not for good reasons).
