At the moment I'm on Windows 7 for work and Windows 10 at home. I've tried to get into Ubuntu but I just find everything I like works on Windows. How about you? Btw I like Windows 7 better than 10, just my preference (I do like old stuff!)

11:53 on a Tuesday night. Do you not sleep Jim?

Pretty standard I am afraid. Windows 10 at work, Windows 10 at home and High Sierra at home. Nothing too exciting!

Windows 7 work and home. Would run linux at home if the games I play worked on them but doesn't look likely!

Windows 10 at home, Windows 7 at work, develop code for Linux servers at work.

Windows 10 seems to have annoying flickering issue, preferred Windows 7.

Windows 10 at home and MacOS (Macbook Pro) for work. Dont know how you guys are still on Windows 7, I find Windows 10 so much better, especially for gaming :)

I had a bad experience with Windows 10 on my laptop in which it constantly crashes, seems to be related to the updates. After that it's just not worth the hassle to upgrade in case it all goes wrong :)

Ahh thats too bad that you had a poor experience with Windows 10. I've deployed it on many computers, even old ones (5 year old PCs), and never had an issue... I always did fresh installs, never did any upgrades, made sure the proper drivers are installed, etc... Even with updates, never ran into issues. At some point I was using Insider Previews, and still had no issues, maybe I was just luck ;)

Nah it's probably fine I just can't be doing with the hassle of resolving any problems when I just want to turn it on and go on youtube or fire up a game. Will get round to it at some point and thinking of upgrading the PC with a few new parts so probably best doing it then. If not, you're coming round to install it for me :thumbleft

I was going to say, once GeForce Now becomes GA, forget a PC, just go all Mac, so long as you have a good internet connection, you can easily game on a Mac. I already tried this with the beta version and it works really well.

And Macs, well, they are more stable than Windows 10 from my experience... I think the last time I rebooted my mac book pro was about 3 weeks ago... Still very stable!

I agree with the stability of Macs but I just can't get past the amount they charge for the hardware. Some people are happy to pay it but it seems to be inflated prices for generally older hardware!

Agreed, the hardware isnt exactly the fastest on the market, but for me, it was never about the fastest computer, its more about how well the OS is integrated with the hardware. You were saying you had constant problems with Windows 10, but thats because Windows has a wide range of hardware it supports, but it doesnt necessarily mean that it will run just as well on any hardware combination. If the OS is optimized for the hardware that it is running on, you'll typically see much better stability, for me, thats where the $$$ are worth it.

Same principle applies to an iPhone and Android phones... If you get a Pixel or an iPhone, chances are, the OS and the hardware have a much better synergy, the OS is optimized for the hardware, for the Apps, etc. If you get some other Android device, like the LG G5 for example (I have this phone as my spare) the battery is very bad, the OS crashes at times and needs to be rebooted, etc but it is 400$ less than my iPhone 7 Plus which again, much more stable and reliable, for me, worth the extra 400$ even if I have to save up for a few months.

Just the way I look at it. But of course, the budget is an important aspect too. :)

I was reading a few articles of companies going all Mac due to the fact they last longer.. and I guess even though they are pricier, overall, they seem more cost effective when looking at longer usage, 3-5 years.

Please do not insult Jim, its not his fault he is so creative. He was probs laying in bed and his creativity grabbed him with a new thread idea and he had to rush downstairs in his PJs fire up his liquid cooled Ubuntu box and make this thread.. a victim of his own creativity.

If my mac lasted only 5 years I wouldnt be happy. I had an 07 imac running sweet as anything with the lastes OS on (el capitan at the time) it got to the point where it wouldnt break and I needed an excuse to get a new PC so I sold it, probs one of the best systems I have ever used.
