    Hi Guy's,

Well took the plunge yesterday, got my references and posted my application form to become a Chartered IT Professional (CITP). Hopefully I've documented all the relevant experience & skills and hopefully I've met level 5 of the SFIA on all accounts. If my application form, CV, 2 pages of evidence of SFIA activities and the 2 references that I've submitted don't contain all relevant info, then an interview may be required, then it's a yes or no.

Oh well, lets see what's happens :)

See here. It's a Charter mark for IT Professionals, just like the Chartered Engineer Status or Chartered Accountant. It shows that you've met certain criteria under the categories of influence, complexity, autonomy & business skills. While in normal day to day operations I don't believe it wouldn't be very relevant. But since I'm making the move (or at least trying to) into higher IT management, I believe that this will help me.

Currently only the BCS actually offers this mark, however the IET are currently in talks with the BCS in order for them to issue it also. And the NPA in the US now recognise the CITP mark.

:blink I didn’t know about this one. Though I should have considering the amount of times I’ve said IT needs something similar to the Chartered Accountant designation. Thanks Wagnerk!

I saw the 1st blurb and was put off (didn’t sound like enough stipulations):
“To become a Chartered IT Professional (CITP) you should have spent at least the last 12 months in a role…”

    Then I read:
“Typically, you will also have 8-10 years of IT work experience...”

Now I’m interested again. :) Let us know how it goes.

    Good Luck…

D'oh lucky you, I don't know any CITP's however I do know plenty of IT managers around :)

I tell you, updating the CV with all relevant skills/experience and then on top of that matching them up to the SFIA was hard work...

Yeah I was just going to supply the SFIA evidence as a suplimental sheet
my CV highlights a lot of my responsibilities already but i think puttig it in plain english on a seperate sheet makes sense, just renewed my standard membership so my upgrade wont cost any extra for the first year..

As you're in Canada, I've taken a look at CIPS (the Canadian version of the BCS), I was wondering if the ISP designation is similar to the CITP over here? As there's no mention of SFIA on their website, I'm not sure how BOK matches up with SFIA.

Exactly, I only renewed my membership end of Jan. If I get the CITP, I'll save money in the first year already, bonus :biggrin

Fair play Ken - I read they are always crying out for senior managers - go for it!

BTW, when I read CITP I thought my girlfriend is currently studying for that ... but the Certificate in Training Practices run by CIPD....doh, not that one 8)

I was wondering if the CNP program was something similar, as they have adopted the CITP standard?

It just must not be popular here because I haven't heard of anyone who has this. Pretty neat though.
