VMWARE?

    I am not sure where to put this one...

    I have heard on this forum that vmware can be a very usefull tool and help you to grsp concepts better. I was wondering which certs this will be most usefull with and the cost?

    Well. VMWare is a company and they specialise in virtualiation. VMWare Workstation is probably their most well known product and will let you setup virtual machines. You can then set up servers on said VM's and also workstations.

    Very useful when it comes to testing things out that you don't want to try on a real computer / server. Also very good for setting up a test network which could then be used to help you study pretty much any IT exam you could think of.

    I'm not sure of the current pricing on VMWare products, I do know some of them are available for free. VMWare Server is one of the free ones I think.

    Microsoft also provide virtualisation software, all of which is currently free. VirtualPC is a handy program and is similar to VMWare workstation. Not as many features, but it can be much simpler to setup and use. They also offer Virtual Server 2005 R2. I could be wrong but I think that has to run on a server class operating system.

    If you want to have a dabble in virtualisation, I would recommend Virtual PC 2007 as it's easy to get to grips with, and free. You can get it here.
