Hey guys, quick question for those that work with VMware View.

I am in the process of adding our View Desktop environment into our backup plan as we recently deployed View. I am currently using vRanger to backup our VM's. The problem I am having with vRanger is that it cannot backup VM's that have snapshots. For these particular VMware View Desktops, I cannot remove the snapshots because the View Desktops are part of the automated deployment pool and require the snapshots. For those that use VMware View, what do you guys use as the backup software?

I would probably suggest having a look at Veeam as they are constantly voted best of breed when it comes to VMware orientated backups.

They are a helpful bunch as well.

I am going to try Veeam tomorrow, also printed the VMware View backup best practices so going to read that as well...

If you're on Twitter you may want to give Ricky El Qasem of Virtualize Planet@RickyElQasem a shout, he's just moved from Veeam to LiquidWare Labs to move back into the VDI space, he would probably have a pretty decent idea (and Ricky is a BIG fan of VDI).

So Veeam doesn't seem to be able to backup VM's with snapshots either unless I missed something. But regardless, I'll be implementing Roaming Profiles shortly once I get the file server migrated next week and at which we wont need to backup the View Desktops that get automatically deployed. I just made sure that we backup the Transfer, Security, Connection, and the Composer servers and we should be good to go.
