VMware question + Other VMs

I dont have the latest version of VMware so not sure if you can do this.

Is it possible to lock a usb port or controller for exclusive use with a VM??

So for example you can use a specialist USB device (sensor) from within the VM where the host isn't compatible but guest is.

Can any other VM software do this?

Its for a specialist data capture box

Otherwise i'll have to use a keyspan USB server, which i have somewhere and hope it works with this USB device.
