    Becki,

All full retail versions of Vista will be bootable. If you are on about repair tools, then it really depends on what you are trying to repair.

Well its like when u create a XP boot disc with boot.ini, NTLDR and NTLDETECT

i was wondering whether u can create one like it for vista, as i had to reinstall vista once and it was a nightmare to find the files, and i don't really want to pay for a vista disc, as i didn't get one with my laptop

The laptop should have shipped with instructions on how to make a restore disk.

Er - how did you reinstall Vista if you don't have a Vista disk and no restore disk?

On most laptops these days yopu are supposed to make your own restore disks, as almost none ship with any media any longer! :blink

vista has a copy of the o/s installed on the master boot record, but i want a disk just incase i can't access it, like i had trouble doing the other day, when my colleagues hard drive was unaccessible!

Pardon? The MBR is all of 512 bytes!

I sounds to me as if you have a standard separate partition to create and reload Windows.

Double check the docs and try again to create the restore disks.

As already said you should check what recovery options you have with your laptop, you may also be able to purchase recovery disks for a small fee as well. 8)
