i want to buy a cheap pc to 'make my mistakes' on.

i would like to use it alongside my existing pc via a kvm switch. thing is i'm worried about USB compatibility, as the money i want to spend means the systems i'm looking at are quite old.

if i bought a USB1.1 system could i upgrade to USB2.0 by installing a PCI expansion card?

in all honestly, usb2 controller cards are extremely cheap now, you would be much better with that

It sometimes depends on the motherboard. Some older ones don't seem to play nicely with some USB2 cards.

And don't forget that XP didn't support USB2 until SP1 (if I remember correctly).
