I've been using an HP usb mouse with my laptop for a few years now and it's behaved flawlessly...up until this morning. It suddenly stopped responding and I got a balloon message from the systray (Windows XP Pro SP2) saying that my USB device is not recognized. I was advised to unplug it and plug it back in. If that didn't solve the problem, I was advised to replace the device.

Ok, so I figure that my mouse has gone toes up...but the problem in intermittent. It works fine for minutes or hours and then decides to act up again. Might be that the contacts are dirty or there are some broken leads in the cord. Anyone else come across this problem?

    Dear friends.

Today we gather to support our friend Trip as he unplugs his mouse for the last time. He was a good and faithfull mouse. He gave Trip lots of loveable clicks over the years. Sadly though, the mouse clicker has finally worn out and he can go on no more. Trip will miss you Mouse and you will not easily be replace. It is with loving care that trip wraps your cord around your body and throws you in the trash.

May we have a moment of silence please...

Hey Trip, I got a cute litte optical notebook mouse from Logitech

Of course it is cheaper at Amazon

For our British friends, the link would be Amazon.co.uk

    :biggrin

I am assuming you tried updating the driver before you burried the mouse? 8)
