My motherboard has the blue IDE connector. I have my master drive connected via an 80 wire cable to gain from this technology.

Will I loose this benefit if I connect another drive up to this cable and set to slave?

While on the subject of maintaining drives is it a disaster waiting to happen if I change the drive letters
I will keep C as it is but can I alter the others without worrying about the paths for data etc?

You shouldn'y lose any performance unless both drives are being accessed at the same time.
