I am not sure if this the right place for this but I'm trying to get some data of my brothers PC by trying FTP or WS_FTP. We are both using win xp pro and blueyonder broadband. I can ping him on his PC but every time i tried to connect to his PC using the above i get this error message in the attachment

The most likely reason is that he isn't running a FTP server correctly. XP needs to have this set up correctly for this to work.

A more useful error message is usualy generated if you use the ftp command from the cmd prompt.

Another reason (just occured to me - sorry - but after a bottle of wine I'm not usualy at my most coherent!) is that because of firewalls you may need to either cut holes in the firewalls, use passive mode, or both.

Wouldn't it be easier to just send the file/s using MSN

true, but it depends on how many files he wants to transfer + the size of them.

I created a FTP server for someone, but in the end it hogged up my bandwith, so i ended up using www.yousendit.com

Well just zip em up and send them. I don't think MSN has a size limit.

Yousendit works well too, I have used it many times 8)
