Hi - Been lurking on and off a while whilst studying for the A+, with our friends advent unfortunately? I am finding it quite a shock at the sheer breadth of knowledge required as I was under the impression that the A+ was a starting point and a sort of 'trivial' first step. I am no stranger to computers having been 'playing' for many years, done a few builds and constantly reading on the subject; a serious hobbyist one could say!

    to the point:

I have been getting good scores 85 - 90% on some total seminars practice exams but then I tried the dreaded trancender disks! These seem to be very much harder asking more obscure and in depth questions and suddenly I can only do 70%.....

Are these really representative? Are the total seminars ones too easy? Or, have I just underestimated the depth I need to study the subject to?

It's certainly dented my confidence somewhat!!

Personally I thought the questions on the disk that came with the Meyers AIO were harder than the transcender ones.

If you are getting 70% & above the I reckon you'll be ok.

I found Transcender harder, but still averaged about 80-90% before the exam. It tells you your weak points, so simply concentrate on them for a couple of days and then do the next preset exam on Transcender and see how you get on!

I have had the same problem with Advent's A+ (sorry to keep harping on about this - here's my thread.)
I'm trying to get people from Advent to give their opinions in one place since its quite hard for people to find information on them. When I got the Transcender tests I found Advent's textbook inadequate to answer at least 25% of the questions. However it was good in that it gives you info on answers so you can fill in the blanks. I learned the material and passed the exam with Transcender and CertForums as much as the textbook (not how it should be imao).

6 or 7 years ago I would have told you not to sit it yet wait till you got a higher score. The quailty was that good that many a cert seeker swore they were harder then the actually exam but would not sit an exam untill they could pass tranceder with 80% or higher. To do otherwise was to fail it. Now adays, I honestly don't know if that quailty is still being upheld since they were brought out and just about all the old writers are gone. If I was you, I would go though the A+ objectives one by one. Do you know everything? Are there any places you feel weak in? And then go from there.

Yup, I was the last of the 'originals' to leave. I can vouch for what I laid my hands on while I was there; I can't vouch for anything done (or changed) afterwards.
