God i've known that term for years, ever since i first started going in chat rooms. Freeserve chat even had rooms called for Silver Servers over 50's only!

Theres bound to be loads of slang terms used to do with IT and users etc that you may never have come across, its just liek real life in taht sense. We still argue in work over what names we call boy racers!

What's wrong with that?, asks the 50-something old guy. I don't see it as derogatory. That's no more derogatory than Baby Boomer, Generation X, etc....

Ummm.... Every term like this gets "made up" by someone at some time. Take "Baby Boomer" for example. Somebody just "made it up" one day and the terminology just happened to stick. That's how language changes.

I always thought the rise of the silver surfer in the F4 film was a bit odd. Because in the X-men series Galactus was shown in human form with his Giant size roberts and the silver surfer Yet in F4 it was shown as large cloud?

    Something that resembles English weather:biggrin

Maybe in the film series X4 they will have Galactus, after all you see wolferine fight a large robot of Galactus in X3?

Are they making an X4? if they are I hope galactus is in it maybe along with the Fantastic 4, well Jessica Alba anyway :)

The term "Silver Surfer" has been around for a couple of years now, however it's used more in an educational setting - to get the older generation into IT.

As for the Silver Surfer, I can't wait for the movie :)

I am a silver surfer and yet i have never come across this term being used in any way on any forum. My guess is that it was used by Freeserve and maybe a few others. I would not say it was a common term and therefore the question was based on a faulty premise.

On the other hand - I see the term used frequently in the papers!

Go figure (as they once used to say)!
