I got an email from Prometric leading me to this:

MCSE Certification | MCSE Training | Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert
MCSA: The foundation for your career in IT

There is a good 2 for 1 offer as well if you haven't done the the Windows 7 Exam, if you do the exam before June this year and request a code , you can do your Windows 8 exam for free.

So thoughts on this change ?

You missed the MCSM as well. I don't like these recertifying every 3 years ... it could take someone 18 months to get an MCSE, and then in 18 months you have to do it again.

MCSE isn't subject to recertification, as far as I know. If you have it, you have it for life.
The newer MCITPs are valid for the support lifecycle of the technology, as far as I'm aware.

    Not a huge difference really.

I stand corrected. I should have followed the links instead of jumping in feet first.

That's not in any way confusing at all. Well done Microsoft!

EDIT: As an afterthought, I suppose that Microsoft re-branding the MCITPs shows that you can't teach an old recruitment agency dog new tricks.
Another edit: It also seems that you can't teach a young recruitment agency dog anything.
