I have just applied for a Support Analyst role

The job involves support of 300 PCs and 8 Windows 200/2003 servers, support of MS office, SQL server 7.

Remote support and procurement of IT hardware and support of software builds.

I am not sure wether I will be even given an interview as I have no commercial experience in support but I have asked that they consider me as I am a quick learner and have good knowledge of what they are asking.

They also asked for what salary I would expect (apparently this company pays well) I told them what I am on now and asked 1k more.

As I have said I doubt I will be considered but I can only try.

The spec of the job sounds similar to my last job, 500 users spilt over 4 main sites.

Did they give you anymore info on why they are asking for SQL 7 experience?

    Good luck fella

Regarding SQL 7, it may as you say be a manufacturing process app, but its equally likely to be a distribution/inventory/tracking type system too. A lot of places grew from a system bodged on an early version of Access (95 or even, in one place I worked, v 2.0!) in the mid-nineties into a fully-fledged SQL Server version and haven't seen the need to pay for an upgrade, since it still does everything they need.

    Hope you're successful!

My only SQL experience is using it with Oracle to create databases and that was 10 years ago, I am not sure what SQL server is like. Although I would imagine the command structure hasnt changed
