    Hi Guys,

Was thinking of just doing a kind of running commentary on how the Cyber Ops course runs.
I had an email from the Scholarship yesterday which is pretty much an FAQ.

Seems quite straight forward in that you will have weekly meetings with a Mentor (one to All), Technical discussion boards, E-Learning and lots of Labs.

I should be hearing from the "Program Team" in the next couple of days. Will let you know what happens next.

    Cheers

Good idea. How did you go about applying for this @Jaron78? Was there an interview?

    No mate, anyone can apply.

    Register your interest here:
    https://mkto.cisco.com/Security-Scholarship.html

(Stage 1) You will then be asked to fill out a short survey.
(Stage 2) You will be required to complete a 75 Question test. It covers Windows, Linux and Networking. You must score 75% or above to progress.
(Stage 3) This is your congratulations email. You select the Cohort (Start Date) and then get confirmation.

My Start date is Dec 28th so expecting an email (1 Months before your course starts) any day now about what happens next.

Cool. Be interesting to see how you get on.

Any advice on things I should brush up on before the entrance exam? ie is linux weighted fairly heavily on it?

I wouldn't say Heavy but sufficient. That's what really knocked my score.
As long as you know your Windows commands and Networking (Subnetting for example, Ping etc), you should be fine mate.

Cool. Hopefully shouldn't have too many problems then. Did you get to pick your cohort? I want to push this back as far as I can.

I went with December, hopefully get it done and dusted within the 4 months.

Yeah, you'll smash it mate. Don't worry.

Sorry for all the questions, but are cisco providing you with their press books for this/Do you get to select which version?

Honestly Mate, as many questions as you want :)

Nope, it's all e-learning. No press or anything like that. As soon as the course is over, they revoke access too. Brutal!

I think you have to as part of the scholarship. When I signed up originally (about a year ago now) you had a fixed 3 months to do the course with exams at the end. I know it's now been extended to 4 months which I think is why I was shifted from my original September start date, but I don't think anything else has changed.

One of the guys I work with has completed the course but not done the exam. He gets a Certificate of completion, but needs to do both exams in X amount of time.

Wow, thanks for all the details regarding this, Jaron.

Not sure I got emailed all this but will check.

I can't make these times and hope the recorded material will be easily accessible after the event.

Has anyone signed up for the pre-course general introduction to cyber security course?

No worries mate. I'm 99% sure I read that the recordings go up 48 hours after they are broadcast.

Ive had a look at the Cyber Ops courses on Netacad. Seem pretty good, will try and get through them again before the 28th.

Cheers, Jaron. I'm feeling under the weather at the moment but will go over the Intro courses available this coming weekend hopefully. Really want to get into a regular study pattern again. Also, it would be good to start sharing ideas once the course starts.

So first Pre-Course meeting is on Wednesday at 16:30. I think it will cover the basics of the course, how it works etc. Luckily, I am working from home on Wednesday (Coincidence?)

Will give you an update about what it entails etc.

Thursday's course is 10:30pm though so that's a late one!
