What does everyone listen to when they are studying?

I had been a man using last.fm for all of mine so I get a general mix of everything, but it's gone downhill in my opinion and gives more trash than gold... so at this very moment in time I have the Keane - Hopes & Fears album on

The Cranberries is great study music. Not too distracting.

I can't work with any background distraction whatsoever, so nothing.

No music here aswell, dont see how you can concentrate on a video or reading a book with music on in the background :)

Definitely. If there's music on then my mind is focussing too much on the words/music

Glad it's not me that insists on silence! I've always had to study in silence otherwise I just can't concentrate!

It depends for me, mostly I stick my ears in and listen to music when studying otherwise all I here is the wifes eastenders or something else just as mind numbing when I'm trying to study. Actually I've built up a bit of an 80's collection on spotify which I'm quite enjoying as study music at the moment.

If I'm reading, especially a hard, long chapter, then silence is golden.

But if I'm concentrating on a video or doing a lab-session, then any backround noise just disappears for me anyway, so there would be no point...

    Epic epic music.

No distracting words and really gets the positive mood up :)

In depth concentration times.... silence as has been mentioned.

Currently listening to the Top Gun soundtrack whilst finishing an SBS migration, so sometimes anything goes :biggrin

I associate certain albums with certain study types. Allows for better recall for me, oddly.

IT gets rock music, and I have a studying list on Spotify like a few others. Other studies / writing gets classical or jazz. Loves de jazz :)

Silence is disconcerting. I find myself more distracted by background noises that I wouldn't expect, as opposed to the lyrics of music that I know already.

I can't do the silence thing while studying, my hearing too good. So when I study its classic 90's rock, guns n' roses and so on. It worked while I was at school and college and it works now (:

Dead silence here too... I soak up the info a lot better when there is zero distractions. I don't know how y'all can truly concentrate when listening to music. Kudos to you if you can.

Multitasking will degrade the quality of the tasks more often than not. The brain is hardwired similar to a CPU chip, "multitasking" is accomplished by switching back in forth between the two processes at such a speed they only appear to be happening at the same time.

No music when studying. I like to take breaks every half hour or so though and listen to a couple of tracks.

Usually old school Ministry of Sound CDs – sometimes have the football on in the background depending who is playing.
