standard gate way

    Excuse the language...... This is a question from a friend ( not me )

    CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT A ****ING STANDARDGATEWAY IS I CAN NOT LOG ON TO MY MSN AS REASON IT IS TELLING ME THAT MY STANDARDGATEWAY IS OFFLINE I HAVE GONE THROUGH MY WHOLE COMPUTER AND HAVE NOT FOUND ANYTHING CALLED STANDARDGATEWAY PLEASE HELP

    Might this be 'default gateway'?

    If so either his network settings have been scrambled, or a hard setting was made which is no longer valid.

    For most people the TCP/IP properties should be set to 'automatic' which deals with problems like this.

    Cheers for the reply, so how does he resolve this bear in mind he is not up on computer technology i.e he nows how to turn it on/off.....

    He takes the machine to his dealer. Seriously.

    If thats all he knows then he needs expert help.

    If you know your way round network settings then set TCP/IP to 'automatic'.

    100% agree. Sounds like a serious problem, especially since he has 'GONE THROUGH (HIS) WHOLE COMPUTER' and can't work out how to fix it...:rolleyes:
