Don't kids just love to play.

The little darlings have found out that some of our machines have built in microphones and have found a way to turn on the speech recognition option. Now were getting a load of guff displying on the screen as the mic picks up talking. How can I turn this off. It's the XP clients. I don't seem to be able to find an option to turn the Accessibility Options off either in the Group Policy or local policy.

AJ, I don't know if this might help, but I hope it does.

I'd tend to agree with Si. If you've got Group Policies on your AD network, just hide the relevant Control Panel Applet or Control Panel for that matter. You can also hide the Start menu and the Run box if they are somehow accessing the microphone from there. It all does really hinge on how they're accessing the mic in the first place. Of course you could just shoot one of the offending little critters as an example and maybe the rest would leave it alone. :D Just sayin'

Can't you disable the mic in the BIOS?

Sorry chaps, I forget about this one. The kids are turning it on through the language icon in the sys tray. We have to have it there so that they can change the keyboard etc when they are doing French etc. I have found that if I uninstall that option in M$ Office it doesn't become an issue.

Could of disabled it in the bios but didn't really want to have to go to every machine and mess about with them.

    Cheers
