My job role requires knowledge about query writting and SQL Server 2008/2005. I am able to do some data manipulation using the Management Studio but nothing else. I am not aiming to be a developer but I need proper grounding in sql server (and associated database knowledge) so I have decided to go for the certification.

My problem is which path to follow and I have limited funds. Should I go for the developer path of the Implementation and Maintenance path? Which will give me proper grounding in SQL?

Is the Implementation and Maintenance path only for Database administrator?
