My name is Andy and seeing as this is my first post a few details about me.

Have got to that time in life when you start to think about the future. My current job is getting me down as there seems to be no possibilty of moving up. So I am making inquiries about careers change and IT is one that I have been doing on my own for the last few years for friends etc repairing, upgrading etc.

I would like to get more formal recognized qualifications in IT and was pointed in the direction of this forum from another I belong to.

I hope the questions I ask will not be silly in your eyes and the search function will be well used I think.

    Hi Welcome :)

You should look at getting compTIA A+ certification if getting into IT support is your aim.

You do not need to do courses for vertifications you can learn by self study.

All you need for the A+ is compTIA A+ all in one exam guide 6th edition by Mike Meyers and PC Technician street smarts by James Pyles (you can get them on Amazon), an old PC to mess about with would help too.

    Welcome to CF AndyIoW.
Your local College on The IoW runs Cisco IT Essentials part time, It's a good course to do, i have done it myself!
IT Essentials 1 would give you good grounding & enable you to take with some self studying A+.
A+ is the basic IT Techie qualification.
    Good luck.

Welcome to CF:) and yep! you're best starting with the A+ Comptia cert as you'd learn a lot in terms of the hardware, software and customer services aspect of computers.

The cert is also for life, meaning you don't have to re-new every two yrs like some other type of cert and it's professionally recognized too. Best wishes and don't forget to stick around:)

To agree with the most of the previous suggestions, start with the A+. From there you can consider the N+ and/or Microsoft’s MCDST.

Welcome to the forums & Good Luck! :sunny
