    This morning (0900) i had an interview with the company im currently working for for the permanent servicedesk vacancy which had arisen. 3 of us temps went for the job (the 4th is a student), this afternoon, i was offered the vacancy!!!!!!!

    That's great news, well done.

    We've got a help desk guy here. He's the youngest member of the team, and he helps the administrator.

    He helps him by answering the phone and dealing with customer problems so that the administrator doesn't have to.

    The process goes something like this.

    1. He answers the phone and listens to the long winded and technically inaccurate description of what the customers problems are.

    2. He blames the customer for whatever has gone wrong in such a confident manner that the customer believes him.

    3. We all run round like headless chickens trying to work out what we did to cause the problem and then fix it.

    4. He phones the customer back, blames them again and invents a story about how we have sorted it out. If it was a big problem, he balmes someone else too like the ISP or Bill Gates.

    We actually have an automated system for logging support issues via the Internet, but it always seems to be broken and nobody has really thought of a good reason for trying to fix it.

    Ironically then half the calls this guy gets are to tell him that the automated thingy is broken, even though they didn't seem to have a fault to report in the first place.
