I don't know about the rest of you, but I find this very hypercritical since it was probably their grandparents that was part of this revolution that not only killed their king with his queen, but the children too.

I disagree. I dont find it hypocritical in the slightest. I'd find it so if it was the ones who murdered them doing it. But as you say it was likely their grandparents that did it. So not them.

These people werent the perpetrators, and they are not accountable for the actions of their ancestors. Its perfectly legitimate for them to regret the actions of their grandparents. Even we ourselves are permitted to feel regret and remorse for the actions of our own doing.

If these were me and mine I would not want them anywhere near me dead or not. I find it hard to belive that people that could murder children so easily would not raise their offspring with that same hate. So many stories have made it to TV about this close family and the support is more with the slain family. I think it is more shame then regret.

I can understand how people have a hankering for a past they never really knew, a time without communism as far as the Russians are concerned; maybe a 'Golden Age'.

I think the interesting points when I read the article were that the Tsar was made a saint, and he is fighting it out with Stalin in a poll to find the greatest Russian!

Stalin, from what I can remember reading about him, he was a nasty bit of baggage and some of the stories that d-Faktor told me how her family was directly affected by this man still turns my blood cold.

Yet some people only seem to want to look back with rose tinted spectacles.

I think it's funny, in a strange rather than hilarious way, how history plays tricks. I suppose the bias from certain commentators and historians helps to paint a far from true picture of some historical figures.

It's only 3:30pm here... and I'm taking off a couple of hours early (at 4pm) to go to Brandon's T-ball trophy presentation.

Besides, we did our anniversary "date night" last Friday, since we're going to West Virginia tomorrow. The last thing she'll want to do tonight is go out, since she's gotta pack. She ain't missin' me one bit at the moment. :)

Mitzs, i think its a much saying that it hypocritical that russians are celebrating etc, making it sound liek they should be ashmaed of the killings when, noone alive today had anything to do with it. It may have been somone in someones family down the line, but it was only a few who actually did the killings.
The revolution was a political thing, and lets face it revolutions happened alot back then, some bloody some not so. But people today cant be held responsible for the actions of thier ancestors, Other wise that would make a lot of Germans responsible for things during the war, when they may not have even been born, and would make me responsible for things my ancestors did in the 1700 and 1800 that i have no real knowledge of.

I do think that the story behind teh Tsars is a sad one and an intersting one. The fact that they were killed, but questions were left as to 1 body missing and another possibly not of one of teh family, all the mystery that surrounds that etc, really does make for a good research topic. All makes for a good conspiracy.

And if i have mistaken your comments Mitzs, i apologise now, it was a quick read of teh thread, and the /gf kept disturbing me...... (women never happy!)

Its a cast-iron frying pan that has been well season. The only thing I cook in this one is my cornbread. When it is done it slides out like butter.
