I just came back from my annual review and I am really happy with how it turned out. Here it goes...

For about a year and a half I've been working along side the senior network administrator. When I started it was My self (desktop support), and two network administrators, one of them being senior to the other... but in the grand scheme of things they did the same stuff, it was more down to seniority then anything. One of the Network admins quit, not the senior guy but the other guy and ever since then things changed, here's how. Btw where I work we always had 2 network guys and 1 desktop guy....

Since then and this happened 2 years ago it was just my self and the senior network guy. From that point on we had hired a total of two network guys... not at the same time. We hired one network guy who couldn't do anything when time came to perform and same with the other network guy. Throughout all that time I've taking over their tasks because they simply couldn't do them... then this summer the senior network admin left for 5 weeks on paternity leave and of course since we didn't have a network guy to replace him my boss got a consultant to come for the 5 weeks. The irony is that the consultant got sick and I became the network admin/desktop support for those 5 weeks... and pulled it off with great success... managed everything on my own. When network issues occurred, I fixed them and still managed to keep up with the desktop support.

So as of tomorrow... I am officially a network administrator. I will be going on VMware training in 1 months time.

I am really happy about this because I really worked hard to get there and after 3 years as desktop support guy and studying and working hard it payed off and I finally got to where I wanted to be. Now it's a matter of getting several years of experience and then I was thinking of specializing... but until then I am just going to concentrate on working hard and keep studying!!

VCP or the vmware knowledge in general is something I need to have... vmware takes up a huge chunk of our network... it's a must. Also I've always wanted to finish MCSA but I just never got the experience... now I actually will so that's great as well!

Thanks a lot everyone... the last few years like I said earlier were really intersting... unexpected and hard... but I told my self no matter what keep at it, promotion or not, I'll be getting the experience. In the end experience comes first.
