I was just wondering does anyone know if its possible to book an exam and pay for it online tommorrow and write it on friday or is it too late and they need one day in advance - prometric that is?

Yep, you can indeed, as long as the site you are booking it for has spaces.

I know it's possible to even book it with some sites (as long as you phone them directly) and take it the same day.

 

Pearson Vue can book the same day, if the desired test centre is availible.
