    Hi there Knowledge types,

my laptop got problems, many programms 'not responding' eg. 'search','ie' ,'excel' not freezing all the time just on occasions, also for some bizzare reason excel is having difficulty running formulas, and conditional formats, these have worked on hte same programme in the past but now are not regestering.

I did a search, (when it decided to run) for a user32.exe and couldnt find one is this likely to be part of the problem? if so where can I get a usable user32.exe. I am running winXP and Office XP pro.

    many thanks for any ideas,

    cheers

    SD

    Hi,

If you open up CMD (Run.....CMD)
    Type sfc/scannow

The system will then scan for all system files. It might ask you for the Windows CD Rom if some are corrupted.
Let us know if that sorts it.
