Have you checked in Device Manager that the new display adapter is showing, and that the old previous display adapter is disabled/ uninstalled ?

    hi ,no

when i have pluged my card in then i attempt to turn on my pc the monitor doesn't turn on as i am using the agp slot now with my old card this gforce fx should just work the same.

i dont even get to see the post screen or even xps boot screen

any ideas what so ever would be great how can i check to see if i have on board gfx more clearly? i think i might be going wrong somewhere in the bios?

Go back to your old card.
I get the impression that this was PCI? Correct? Do you want the old card to work at the same time? I assume not....
In display properties set 'standard VGA' - you might have to set 'don't use this device'.
If you dont want to use the old card do these:
    1) Uninstall the old card drivers
    2) Reboot and in the BIOS change the boot video from pci to vga
    shutdown
Remove old card and fit new and boot. You should get video and be able to install the drivers.

    hi guys

I think i have the problem under control im pretty sure now that its my powersupply
trying to find out what power supply i have before i continue there isn't labels anywhere on this thing for me to find out.

But am i right in assuming that if my brandnew cards fan doesn't want to turn then its a powersupply issue?or do these things work in mysterious ways i have to ask,

Do you get the beep on boot with the new card? If not then very likely it is a power problem.

Some of these cards take a huge amount of power. Many need an extra feed from the PSU. However - if your motherboard is old it may not have the ability to drive this card at all.

Having looked this card up I see that it doesn't need an extra power feed.

However - it seems (I think) to need AGP X8. Can your motherboard do this?

there's no extra feeds from the psu on the card only would you have thought that being 20 watts down for a card which takes 250watts of power would make the difference for it not to work at all sorry about this im trying everything to see if its a stupido option thats not checked or something

im finding it hard to face upto the facts but a new powersupply shouldn't be a problem :)

btw great my motherboards fine with 8x im upgrading from the 64mb gforce4 mx440 8xagp well trying to lol

Er - can you be a little more precise here please. I thought you were changing to AGP - am I right that you are now saying that the old card was AGP as well?

    If this is the case:
    Fit the old card.
Uninstall the drivers - and set to 'standard VGA'
Shutdown and fit the new card.
    Install drivers

Hm - I would expect the fan to spin - however - some of these boards have fans that trigger on chip heat. It is *possible* that this card may not be a working one. How about contacting the retailer?

As Geforce FX 5500 is a generic name can you tell us the full manufacturers name please?

also they pci Geforce 6200 isn't a wise choice from a gaming point of view with a price tag of 60 pounds.

ps.the box makes it look really promising.

Sorry - this one I seemed to have missed.

I have never heard of this manufacturer. So my first thought is take the card back to the dealer and get him to show you it working.

Second - ask the dealer about it being OK with your motherboard.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say about the 6200, but for serious gaming few gamers will look at a card under £100 I'm afraid!
