It will be a cockup, they have probably taken the site down to sort it. Who knows some lucky people might get one for that...:D

There's a story on the Reg about this here.

The part of it that interests me is the line
I'm 90% sure that if these TVs were offered at this price in store they would be legally obliged to honour them, but I wonder what the score is with regards to online purchases. My limited legal mind says that if someone has received a confirmation email of the purchase, that constitutes a contract of sale and must be honoured. Anyone else agree?

If I received a confirmation email for one, I would want to believe that it should be honoured. However, if I sent a confirmation email for one, I would want to believe that it was just a mistake and issuing an apology should suffice.

Hence you would need to get proper legal advice to see if a precedent had been set somewhere before. If enough people dig their heals in on this, then this maybe the case that clarifies the law.

That's all true Bluerinse, but I'm thinking that as a verbal contract is legally binding under UK law, an emailed confirmation must surely be.

Hmmm, maybe but I doubt it- I know a fax can be legally binding but emails I believe are not, as they can be so easily spoofed.

I recent change in the UK law, now makes it possible for a shop to advertise something at the wrong and not be legally obliged to honour that price. Previously, they had to sell it to you at the advertised price, this alass is no longer the case.

Not sure about Internet purchases and confirmation emails though.

Thanks for that Neelix, I haven't heard that before. I know once, I took a CD to the counter (at Woolworths again funnily enough) expecting to pay £12 for it but it rang up as £0.00 so they had to give it to me for free:D .

A similar story on the Reg, this time at Hamleys. The difference is, they said they would honour any purchases made at their cost. That's good PR.:D
