    Passed Network+ today :biggrin :biggrin

Although it never came up in the exam, thanks to everyone who helped me understand subnetting.

Now, on to Microsoft 70-270 :blink

I timed it nicely so I can enjoy a weekend away from the books, and I dare say the first beer won't be too far away!

    Thanks again for your help.

    Good onya mate.

N+ with no subnetting questions - seems a tad odd to me. Are you sure you sat the right exam

I assume you're joking since subnetting is listed nowhere in CompTIA's objectives for the Network+.

Congrats!! And yes, for net+ you are only expected to appreciate the purpose of subnetting, you're not actually asked to do it!

This is something I wrestled with a little bit...

I was really having a mental block with the whole subnetting thing (i.e. working out address ranges, no. of hosts etc) and I considered just moving on and not wasting any more study time on the topic - as it wasn't absolutely necessary.

However, I figured that the topic was sufficiently important that I should persevere and try to understand it now rather than have even more problems in the future.

With the assistance of a couple of different books, the internet, and the members of this forum, the penny finally dropped.

I'm glad I finally got to grips with this, even though it was not something that was actually in the exam.

No I wasn't joking Trip, it just surprised me that an exam which is supposed to be about networking *essentials* does not include questions on subnetting.

I will have to check out what is covered
