I got my Shodan (1st degree black belt) in Shotokan Karate, then I crossed trained in Freestyle karate and was awarded my 2nd degree black belt, then I damaged the ligaments in my left knee and that was the end of that :( I have tried to take it back up recently but after 3 months of practice, I needed about 6 months rest.

Same thing happened to me, I did jui jitsu untill I was 16 got my First Dan then I was put in up against the seniors in a full contact tournament. As I was so small 5ft 5 havent grown since (apart from sideways) I had to use my legs as much as possible. I ended up damaging the ligaments in both legs which rendered me imobile for 6 weeks.

I did take up Tai chi, Tae kwondo and Kung Fu at university but I just wasn't up to the pace especially in Kung Fu.

So all I have to show for my martial arts apart from certificates is two lumps one under each knee cap.

I want to start Taekwondo before Hayden starts his normal belt progression... hoping that I can carve out the time for it.

I actually wanted to do jujitsu, but I didn't want to do a full contact martial art. I got enough bruises (& being battered) from semi-contact and light-continuous

Taekwondo, imo, is quite good also. Very similar to karate, good luck Boson :)
